Visible Fictions flagship interdisciplinary education project State of Emergency kicks off on Monday the14th of November for the second time. Last year the project took place in 7 schools across Scotland and was such an explosive success we are delighted to be delivering it again.
This year we have 4 new schools and 3 of last years schools coming back for more, to deliver an intensive week of cross curricular learning. Inveralmond High School, St Josephs College, Dumfries Academy, Douglas Ewart High School, Lochend Secondary School, Cumnock Academy and Clydeview Academy will be taking their 2nd year pupils off timetable to fully immerse them in all things to do with conflict - using 4 ‘webisodes' (especially created online dramas) to inspire discussion and activity.
From cooking with rations in Home Economics to handling hostage negotiations in English, using Maths to manage medical supplies to engaging with Art to analysis how war is depicted. Students will learn in a dynamic cross curricular style, which will both challenge and excite students and their teachers.
All subjects across the curriculum have been responding to this rich topic in their own way, writing and delivering bespoke lesson plans and sharing them with colleagues in their own and other participating schools via the State of Emergency Glow Group months ahead of the intensive week. If you would like to become a member of this Glow Group and access these resources and follow the project please email paul@visiblefictions.co.uk
State of Emergency is taught in partnership with the participating school and a ‘Teaching Artist' from Visible Fictions, who works with the school months ahead of the intensive week. State of Emergency is therefore bespoke to your school, delivering outcomes and objectives that are relevant to you.
